Dr Ian Kawaley Appointed To Appeals Court
Governor Rena Lalgie has announced the appointment of Dr Ian Kawaley as a Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal of Bermuda with effect from 1 January 2023.
Governor Lalgie said, “Dr Kawaley’s appointment brings a wealth of valuable knowledge and insight to the Court of Appeal from his extensive judicial experience in Bermuda’s Courts over the past 19 years.”
Dr Kawaley was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1978 and the Bermuda Bar in 1980. After being called to the Bermuda Bar, he joined the Attorney-General’s Chambers as Crown Counsel. Between 1985 and 2003 he worked in private practice before rejoining the judiciary in mid-2003 as a Puisne Judge. Dr Kawaley was Chief Justice between 2012 and 2018 before retiring. Since 2018 he has acted as an Assistant Justice in Bermuda and currently serves as a Grand Court Judge in the Cayman Islands.
An excellent choice. Congratulations to both Dr. Kawaley and Bermuda
