  1. Build Up Your Confidence says:

I watched and listened to what this guy had to say on the news last night and he didn’t seem to confident, assertive or upbeat at all to me!!

    • citi zen says:

How about a nice warm congratulation to a son of the soil!

    • andre says:

He is quiet by nature. Very unassuming. Don’t judge the book by its cover!

  2. Truth is killin' me... says:

Felt the same way watching him on TV. The judicial system right now needs “Brass Balls” not “Cotton Candy” glove approaches to crime. We’ll see if he’s a pushover real soon in the coming months!

  3. LaVerne Furbert says:

If anyone has read Justice Kawaley’s rulings, they will know that he is no “pushover”. He is both confident and assertive, and extremely witty. But he does not have a British accent.

Dr. Kawaley deserves all the kudos that we can give him.

    • verbal kint says:

LaVerne. You are aware of the fact that he’s not a “real” “Bermudian”. His father came from overseas. Expat.

  4. cygnet says:

Congratulations Ian. Yes I called him Ian. I remember attending West Pembroke School and the teacher asked all of us what we wanted to be when we grouw up. Ian “the boy that talked different” was how we referred to him, stood up and said positively and clearly – SOMEBODY IMPORTANT. I will never forget those words from him and have great respect for him. Again, Congratulations Dr. Ian Kawaley.

  5. Common Sense says:

I’m 100% with Laverne on this one. Justic Kawaley is an excellent judge and should do a great job, but he sure has big shoes to fill in replacing Richard Ground who has been one of the best Chief Justices in the last half century.

We have produced several outstanding “sons of the soil” judges, especially Sir James Rufus Astwood. Congatulations to Justice Kawaley. Wishing you all the best as our Chief Justice.

  6. bdagirl says:

Justice Kawaley is a cool, calm and patient individual. His character is unassuming but those who are the most intelligent or the strongest don’t have to shout it from the roof tops. They feel so, they live so and they know so. I welcome justice kawaley to this new position and i know that he the best candidate for the job. BIG UPS 2a BERMY NATIVE- and good luck.

  7. Paul says:

Justice Kawaley is a fine judge and the right man for the job. He may very well be unassuming and soft-spoken, but he’s a credit to the judiciary and a kind and reasonable man. Well done.

  8. VJ says:

Congratulations to the new Chief Justice Ian Kawaley. I had a case some years ago with Justice Kawaley (civil matter). I was a nervous wreck, but I felt at ease with him immediately and found him to be very fair and an excellent listener. I think that he has the ideal demeanour for this post and I wish him every success!

  9. Dee says:

I was very impressed by his humility…no over inflated ego here! Congrats Justice Kawaley and all the best!!!

  10. thinkfirst says:

Some Bermudians are so negative and small minded grow up. Judging someone because of how they sound. Congrats Justice Kawaley
