Fruit Juices, Ice Cream & Lettuce Prices Up
The average cost of fruit juices went up 24.4%, ice cream went up 21.1%, frozen entries went up 20.9% and bread went up 19.4% on a year to year basis, while on a month to month basis, the average cost of ice cream increased by 17.4%, red grapes went up 16.8% and lettuce went up 12.8%.
This is according to the recently released September Consumer Price Index which said that on an overall month to month basis the food sector grew 1.3%, while an annual basic food sector prices rose 10.6%.
As far as year to year food prices, the report said, “The Food sector was the largest contributor to the year-over-year change in the CPI, rising 10.6 per cent. The major contributors to the annual increase in the sector were the average cost of fruit juices [+24.4 per cent], ice cream [+21.1 per cent], frozen entries [+20.9 per cent] and bread [+19.4 per cent].”
Looking at food prices on a month to month basis, the report said, “The Food sector grew 1.3 per cent. Price changes were reported in the average cost of ice cream [+17.4 per cent], red grapes [+16.8 per cent] and lettuce [+12.8 per cent].”
