“He obtained a Bachelor of Science [honors] in physiotherapy from St. Georges University of London and holds a Master of Science in advanced manipulative physiotherapy from the University of Birmingham, with a specialty designation by the Musculoskeletal Association of Physiotherapists [MACP] in the UK. “In addition to his academic achievements and practical experience, Lightbourne has provided pre/post-recovery support to the Bermuda National Rugby Team and local football clubs. He is also experienced providing treatment at major sporting events, including Bermuda International Race Weekend, the Bermuda rugby classic, and the annual end-to-end event, while contributing to youth programs with Word of Life Bermuda.

Bruno Teixeira, the Director and Registered Physiotherapist at PhysioActive Ltd., shares, “We are very excited to welcome Stephen to the team as we expand to support clients with injury recovery and preventive services. Stephen brings a modern, best-practice approach across orthopedics and musculoskeletal injuries.”

He adds, “These areas of expertise will help to provide a fuller array of services to our clients, many of whom suffer from chronic back pain and arthritis-related challenges, that leaves them in despair. We will look to find more positive experiences with physical activity for our clients. Stephen’s experience and approach align with our values in providing preventative care treatment, promoting and keeping people active, and increasing their function to avoid chronic, long-term issues.”

Lightbourne shares, “I look forward to adding further value to the PhysioActive client experience. I am grateful for the opportunity to instill best practices and share critical tips across a diverse customer base.” The clinic provides ongoing service to corporate executives, athletes, cross-fit enthusiasts, new mothers, adolescents, and seniors.

He adds, “It’s paramount to keep moving through strengthening, running, or consistent physical activity at home, like gardening. These activities are a great investment to keep your joints healthy. My hands-on experience and research are centered on knee and hip osteoarthritis and spinal morphology, so preventative care is beneficial to improving and retaining function. I am keen to share what I have learned and help promote this lifestyle in our community”.

“Adding to the PhysioActive Team, the clinic can now take on more clients and assist with rehabilitation through scheduled gym activities. The gym has a dedicated trainer, Nathan Burgess, who provides progressive workout reforms to complement the physio treatments for clients.”

Teixeira summarises, “The PhysioActive Team will be gearing up with local athletes in the New Year as they prepare for the international race weekend. In addition, the clinic has already begun seeing an influx of new client queries from people looking to get in better shape for 2023. Subsequently, Stephen’s addition to the team is excellent timing, and we’re pleased to collaborate with him.
