Apply For Local And Overseas Scholarships

The Ministry of Economy and Labour, through the Department of Workforce Development [DWD], is inviting applicants to apply for their 2023 Local and Overseas Scholarships.

In 2022, the DWD provided $350,000 in scholarship funding to help 25 Bermudians attend local educational programmes and overseas tertiary education.

The Minister of Economy and Labour, Jason Hayward, explained, “In alignment with the Bermuda Economic Recovery Plan’s Youth Employment Strategy, the Department of Workforce Development remains committed to providing Bermudian students access to overseas and local scholarships.

“These opportunities enable our youth to complete their educational pursuits, putting them on the path to success. Furthermore, investing in our youth will help grow Bermuda’s workforce and strengthen our economy, creating a more sustainable and stable community.”

The spokesperson said, “This year, to further support Bermuda’s young people, the DWD has increased the window of time to apply for these scholarships by a month. Interested persons may apply online at from Wednesday, 1 February to Sunday, 30 April 2023.

“Please note the following guidance:

  • Only fully completed applications will be considered, and hard-copy applications are not accepted.
  • For more information, please visit, and in the ‘Scholarship Name Search’ of the ‘Search Scholarships page’, key in and search for the word ‘Department’.
  • Read the descriptions provided to see what supporting documents are needed and whether to apply for the local or overseas scholarship.

“In addition to providing scholarship opportunities, Bermuda’s young people can receive support with career development by way of resume writing and interviewing skills. Students can also apply for summer internships and summer employment programmes which give young people the opportunity to gain on-the-job experience.”
