Human Library Information Session On Jan 25

January 20, 2023

A Human Library information session is set to be held at the Bermuda National Library on January 25 at 6.00pm, in advance of the Human Library event set to take place in February.

A spokesperson said, “The Human Library, a chance to unjudge someone. WalkTogetherBermuda in partnership with the Bermuda National Library, Citizens Uprooting Racism in Bermuda [CURB], the Department of Culture, and the Human Rights Commission, is planning to host the first Human Library in Bermuda on February 23, from 5:30 – 8:30pm.

“The Human Library is designed to build a positive framework for conversations that challenge stereotypes and prejudices. The Human Library creates a safe space for dialogue where topics are discussed honestly and openly between our human books and their readers. During a Human Library event, human books are on loan to readers and explore the book’s experience through one-on-one conversations for 30 minutes.

Human Library Bermuda January 2023

“A book with the Human Library is a person that volunteers to represent a stigmatized group in the community and based on their personal experiences can answer questions from readers to help challenge what is being said/told/understood about a given topic; to help shed light on the facts as you know them. Books are not political or on a mission, but rather able to follow the curiosity and direction of the reader during their time together.

“We’re inviting you to consider being a book to make our event a success. Do you defy a stereotype and have valuable experiences readers could benefit from learning about? Are you motivated to help challenge stigmas and prejudices through dialogue and personal conversation?

“Then join us for an information session on how to become a human book on Wednesday, 25 January 2023 at 6:00pm at the Bermuda National Library at 13 Queen Street, Hamilton. Refreshments will be served.
