Police & The Rest Win 2023 Duckett Memorial
The Bermuda Police Rugby Football Club hosted the annual George Duckett Memorial Rugby Tournament at Police Field in Prospect this weekend. In the opener, the Police Ladies defeated the Rest 27 – 7, and in the men’s match, The Rest defeated the Police 45 – 25.
The annual games are played in memory of George Duckett, a former Commissioner of Police who was assassinated in 1972. Mr. Duckett was a popular, larger-than-life Commissioner who had a commanding presence standing at 6’5” tall, and was well known as an ardent rugby fan. In 1973, the Bermuda Police Rugby Section commenced an annual game in his honour, which is the longest-running memorial game in Bermuda.
