Robert Richardson Earns RICS Membership
Robert Richardson has successfully earned membership with the globally recognized Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors [RICS] as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor.
The qualification is a significant milestone in Mr. Richardson’s 15 year career in construction project management and cost management, and he noted that it “demonstrates his commitment to the promotion of high professional and ethical standards in the development and management of construction and infrastructure.”
Mr. Richardson, 36, graduated from Philadelphia University in 2009 with a BSc in Business Administration. From there he took on a junior project management role at Correia Construction following several summer holiday stints with the company.
While with Correia, Mr. Richardson managed several multimillion dollar contracts, eventually being promoted to Project Manager/Quantity Surveyor.
He said he is “grateful for the foresight of Dennis Correia in directing him towards the project management path; and regards Richard Preli as a personal mentor who gave excellent guidance” in shaping his career.
Currently, Mr. Richardson works with the Structures Section within the Ministry of Public Works where he manages various projects for the Engineering Department.
With the qualification now in hand, Mr. Richardson noted that he “has the technical expertise to prepare high level and detailed cost estimates for the design, construction and management of commercial and residential projects.
Obtaining the qualification was a 15 month journey for Mr. Richardson. He counts his Public Works team as a strong support network along the journey.
Mr. Richardson said, “The team at Public Works has been instrumental in my most recent success. I owe a debt of gratitude to Nana Turkson who was my RICS counselor throughout the process. I am also thankful for my direct manager, Mr. Austin Kenny, who accommodated me with flexible hours so that I could achieve this goal.”
Mr. Kenny said, “Robert is a valued member of the team here at Public Works. He is hardworking, honest and always willing to share his knowledge of the sector with the team. It has been a pleasure to support him as he pursued his Chartered Surveyor status. I have no doubt that he will continue to grow into a leader in the field locally and beyond.”
For now, Mr. Richardson is concentrating on continuing in his role at Public Works and seeing the projects that he is working on through to completion. With the ebbs and flows of the industry, he is keen to assist with providing opportunities that can keep the industry moving through an economic contraction.
When asked about his future, Mr. Richardson spoke of his plans to establish his own business specializing in quantity surveying, property development and project management. He aspires to be in a position to provide opportunities for young Bermudians with an interest in his side of the construction field. For Mr. Richardson, construction project management has been an ideal career.”
He said, “At a time when international business C-suite pursuits were pushed and championed, I knew that I would need to find an alternative path to obtain career satisfaction. To date, my career has provided me with opportunities to be involved in the development of some of Bermuda’s most innovative infrastructure. Having earned the RICS Chartered Quantity Surveyor qualification, I am excited to see what is next.”
CONGRATULATIONS!
