Barnes Looks To Wrap Up Skusa Series Title
[Written by Stephen Wright]
Scott Barnes is in the driving seat to retain his Shifter Masters title in the Skusa Winter Series.
Barnes leads the standings after the opening two rounds of the competition at the Homestead-Miami Motorplex in Florida last month.
The 38-year-old almost completed a clean sweep, winning three of the four races – a heat race and two finals races. He also picked up 20 bonus points with the fastest laps on both days.
The series concludes at the same venue this weekend.
“It’s a matter of wrapping up the title and doing what we have to do,” Barnes told Bernews.
“Hopefully, nothing crazy happens and we stick to the podium.
“Despite the points lead, I won’t race any differently. I’m going there to win. It’s business as usual.”
Barnes, who races for Ohio-based Magik Kart USA, is appealing for sponsorship to help fund his racing ambitions in the United States this year.
The Bermuda Karting Club president has set up an OpenFender account – a funding and sponsorship marketplace for racers – to help him continue his success competing overseas.
