Bermudian Works On Historic All Black Flight

March 1, 2023

British Airways recently operated its first-ever flight with an all Black crew, and Bermudian Keivin Richardson-Crane Pimentel was one of the crew working on the historic flight, and he noted that “Bermuda was represented” on the flight.

The flight occurred in February on British Airways’ Barbados flight, and according to posts on social media, passengers applauded when the announcement was made. The flight was staffed entirely by Black employees, from gate agents, ground staff and the dispatcher to the cabin crew and pilots.

Following the flight, Mr Pimentel said, “I’m proud to have taken part of British Airways first all Black flight part of BeME program. All cultures from our Black community on one flight. Well done! Bermuda you were represented!”

The all Black British Airways flight crew:

“We’re proud to have supported our BeME [Being of a Minority Ethnicity] colleague network group to organise British Airways’ first ever all Black colleague flight, celebrating the contribution our Black colleagues make to the airline and highlighting how important representation and role models are to drive greater diversity,” the airline told aviation site Paddle Your own Kanoo in a statement.

“We’ve got more work to do, and, as part of our BA Better World strategy we’re creating inclusion and diversity programmes and building partnerships with groups like Fantasy Wings to help break down barriers and ensure underrepresented groups are able to access the exciting opportunities available within the aviation industry.”

This is not the first time Mr Pimental has made history, as in 2022 he traveled to Bermuda — while working on a British Airways flight — with the company noting he is British Airways’ first Bermudian Inflight Manager. He previously worked for the airline as a Customer Service Agent at Bermuda’s airport, and went on to become a member of their cabin crew in 2012, and was promoted to the role of Inflight Manager in January 2022.

I read “All Black Flight” and thought of the New Zealand Rugby team, but this is good too.
