Mikhail Nisbett Earns Pilot Certification
Bermudian Mikhail Nisbett is soaring toward a professional aviation career after graduating with an aviation degree and earning his Multiengine Commercial Pilot Certification.
The 23-year-old recently graduated with a Bachelor of Technology in Aviation from Andrews University and has also earned his Multiengine Commercial Pilot Certification.
Mikhail Nisbett, the son of Mazina Nisbett and Michael Nisbett and grandson of the late Reverend Thomas Nisbett, graduated during ceremonies held on May 3, 2026.
His interest in aviation began at the age of five, when he spent time drawing airplanes and building model aircraft out of paper, cardboard, and Lego. His family attends church in St. David’s, and as a child he frequently watched planes take off and land nearby, helping to fuel his fascination with aviation.
As a teenager, his passion continued to grow through the use of Microsoft Flight Simulator X, where he taught himself how to digitally fly aircraft ranging from small planes to commercial jets in a realistic virtual environment.
In 2016, at the age of 12, he earned a partial scholarship from the Bermuda Aviation of Professional Engineers to attend a Johns Hopkins University Academic Explorations Camp.
Nisbett later attended Blue Mountain Academy, a high school with a flight training program for aspiring pilots. By the age of 18, he had graduated with both his high school diploma and his Private Pilot’s License.
He remains in contact with his former flight instructor, Eric Engen, whom he credited with providing steady encouragement throughout his aviation journey.
Following high school, Nisbett continued pursuing his aviation ambitions by enrolling in the Bachelor of Technology Aviation Degree Program at Andrews University. After achieving several major milestones at a young age, he is now focused on continuing to build his experience in the aviation industry as he works toward a career as a commercial pilot.

Congratulations, well done!
