BNG Run For Arts & Mural Submission Deadline
The inaugural BNG 5K Run for the Arts, sponsored by Chubb, is set to take place on Sunday, April 23rd, with the organisers noting that “this is not just a race but a community endeavour: a chance to support the vibrant atmosphere in North-East Hamilton, and to help raise funds for the arts.”
A spokesperson said, “Funds raised will:
- Finance a vibrant public art programme, with the installation of up to three large-scale murals in the North-East Hamilton area to highlight and promote the area’s communities.
- Fund a paid placement on the BNG Internship Programme for a student from the area, providing professional development in all aspects of museum operations, and opening the door to a career in the arts.
- Support Bermuda National Gallery’s education department and programming, offering enriching educational experiences in the arts for learners of all ages.
“The BNG 5K Run for the Arts will bring race participants through several neighborhoods that have identified spaces for murals. The Bermuda National Gallery is seeking proposals for mural designs from local artists. Successful artists will receive payment for their design as well as funding to support the execution of their concept.
“Three sites have been identified as potential locations for murals, local residents and business owners having offered their properties, free of charge:
- Belvin’s Variety on Happy Valley Road, at intersection with Cherry Hill.
- Pembroke Laundromat on Parsons Road: 35ft wall adjacent to laundromat, leading to Rambling Lane.
- Pembroke Park Playground Bathroom on Parsons Road, opposite the newly built Transformational Living Centre for Families.
“The murals will be selected by a committee including race organiser and artist Nhuri Bashir, representatives of Bermuda National Gallery and selected community stakeholders. This will be an open submission process.
“Submissions are open to Bermudian nationals residing both in Bermuda and overseas. Applicants must be age 18 or older at the time of application. Submission is limited to one design per applicant; multiple artists may submit a single proposal together as one applicant.
“Applicants must be prepared to independently coordinate and execute full installation of mural at chosen site if selected, within a reasonable timeframe and budget. Initial work on selected murals is anticipated to begin by race day, Sunday, April 23. It would be appreciated if artists are available on their mural site during the event between 8am and 11am so that runners can see the work in progress.
“The deadline for application is midnight on Sunday, March 26. For more information and to submit a design visit: Mural Proposals – Bermuda National Gallery [bng.bm].”
