Drama Summer Intensive Opens Registration

Venture Theatre is offering Drama Summer Intensive 2023 – Shakespeare In Action – three one week drama classes for ages 11-15 and an exclusive three week intensive.

A spokesperson said, “In summer of 2023 we are offering three separate one week sessions for students ages 11-15, and we are also offering an exclusive three week intensive, culminating in a performance of Shakespeare’s Macbeth for students entering years 10-13.

“Dates for this year’s programming are as follows:

• Session 1 [ages 11-15]: July 3rd-7th
• Session 2 [ages 11-15]: July 10th-14th
• Session 3 [ages 11-15]: July 17th-21st
• The Macbeth Project [yrs. 10-13]: August 7th-25th

“All programming runs Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 4.00pm. We are offering 20 spots per session.

“The day will be divided up into class time and rehearsal time. Classes will take place in the morning and consist of drama games, improvisation exercises, movement, voice and speech, text analysis, and scene study.

“Students in the week-long sessions [July 3rd-21st] will be assigned Shakespearean monologues and rehearsals in the afternoon will focus on understanding the language, gaining a broader understanding of the context for each speech, and ultimately building a collaborative performance of the monologue to be presented at the culmination of the session.

“Students registered for The Macbeth Project will take part in all classes as well as being cast in a fully realized abridged production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth that we will rehearse over the course of the three weeks.

“Being a part of this production will challenge students to develop artistic discipline as they focus on building an ensemble, devising staging, and incorporating the lessons from classes into the multi-faceted rehearsal process. The production will be presented for parents and guests at the culmination of the intensive.
