Minister: ‘No Plans To Close Any Fire Station’

March 30, 2023

“I wish the public to know that there are no plans to close any fire station,” Minister of National Security Michael Weeks said.

The Minister added, “The Ministry is committed to delivering the highest level of emergency services to our residents. We are proud of the standards of service that our first responders provide and the long history of reliable and effective response times. The fire service mobilizes within two minutes of any call, and arrives at any location on the island within 15 minutes.

“The Ministry of National Security and the Fire Service Association have had ongoing discussions to ensure that we continue to meet those response times. A general membership meeting of the Fire Service Association is scheduled for this evening and, as agreed, a joint statement will be issued after that meeting.

“I want to stress to the people of Bermuda that if you call our emergency services, help will arrive quickly and efficiently. We will continue to ensure our fire service is run safely, effectively, efficiently and meeting our response times remain a priority. We continue to work together to keep you safe.”

How can you tell when a politician is being economical with the truth? His lips move.

Me thinks thee doth protest too much

    • watching says:

When people with ulterior motives are on social media posting falsehoods then the Minister has a responsibility to clear it up.

      • Joe Bloggs says:

If politicians have a “responsibility” to clear up rumours on social media they will always be talking and never be working.

  3. Marine Life says:

Good, let’s keep it at “No plans to close any Fire Station”! Never should any first responders ever be cut, or their facilities! We are the Tax Paying public and WE DEMAND full PROTECTION!
This should never come into the realm of questioning.
DON’T ever decrease the Budget of the Police, Fire or Ambulance. Respect goes to all in these departments!

    • Dejavu says:

You’re joking right? Do you know how much firefighters get paid in bermuda lol? They spend more than half their shift watching TV playing video games lol. What fire have they ever stopped from destroying a building? Who have they saved from burning buildings? The firefighters in bermuda are ambulance workers who show up to traffic accidents lol. This by far is the biggest waste of money in bermuda. How many times do you see a fire truck just parked under a tree? Anyone that knows any bermudian firefighter knows that they aren’t heroes in any sense of the word

      • Poof says:

You ignorant you know what. You are just another ignorant individual that thinks the police and the fire get paid too much to do nothing…that is until they need them.

I hope for your sake, you and your family never do. Ignorance is bliss.

By the way, why not share with us all, what exactly what it is that you do for a living and why you deserve every penny you get. Surely if you are so judgmental of what others do you will have no problem sharing with us all what it is that you and while you are at it, you family members do, that gives you a licence to judge.

      • Marine Life says:

Like they say in Bermuda “Always De hard Way”. People: There is one idiot in every crowd. One negative spewer. One day he’ll learn his lesson. Proud and pompous is he.
And then again, he may just want an uprising out of people with his snide remarks. If you can’t say something constructive, keep it to yourself! Go Firefighters! Lots of respect!

  4. Triangle Drifter says:

You had better pray that you never need the services of a firefighter.

  5. Marine Life says:

I have Utmost Respect for Firefighters. They are on STANDBY for the next call when you see them parked or watching TV! Some people will never have proper discernment and will continue through their lives spoiled and selfish. I personally know some of the firefighters here on Island and they are caring decent people that go out of their way to help you.
My own brother has lived in the States for a long time and worked his way to Fire Chief. Seen and helped with many gory scenes and actually saved some buildings from burning down. He has kept many fires from spreading to other houses. Some people need an education on firefighters. And some people need to be thankful for the occupations of others. That is community. No man is an island.
