Pirates ‘Walk The Plank’ Event Set For March 18
The Bermuda Sloop Foundation’s [BSF] Pirates ‘Walk the Plank’ fundraising event will take place on Saturday [March 18] aboard the Spirit of Bermuda in Hamilton Harbour beginning at 11.00am.
A spokesperson said, “Spectators can view the fun from Number 1 Car Park on Front Street. All funds raised from the event will go towards the Foundation’s experiential learning programmes for Bermuda’s public middle school students. As part of the event, BSF has taken hostages who were nominated by colleagues and friends. People can donate towards the hostages’ ransom – choosing to save them or make them ‘walk the plank’ into the waters of Hamilton Harbour.”
Robin Hamill, BSF CEO, said: “We urge everyone to visit our Pirates donations page on Ptix.bm to see who we have taken hostage and either save them or make them walk the plank! This event is one of our major fundraisers and the money raised will go towards our important educational and youth development programmes for public middle school students. Without community support, we would not be able to offer our world-class residential voyages at no charge.
“Our educational experiences aboard the Spirit of Bermuda are a rite-of-passage for teenagers. They have the opportunity to challenge themselves and gain self-confidence in a safe environment, aboard a purpose-built sail training vessel. They learn social, emotional and technical skills that will help them succeed in life.
“We are very much looking forward to another exciting day in Hamilton Harbour starting at 11am and encourage the community to support us by coming out to watch the merriment from Number 1 Car Park. We have some great entertainment lined up and Paco’s Tacos will be open for food. I’m thrilled that ‘Woman of the Year’, Power Girl, Patrina O’Connor-Paynter is our MC and viewers may even spot a mermaid in the harbour!”
The spokesperson said, “This year, hostages include well-known locals, business executives, schoolteachers, and community leaders, including Tom Butterfield, Kathleen Faries, Patrick Dill and Dr Kim Dismont-Robinson.
