Terry Lister Wins Independent Press Award

Former accountant and Minister of Government Terry Lister has added another international literary award to his trophy cabinet. After a successful sojourn in both careers, his appetite for travel became his passion and he soon realised that photography would add to his memories.
Mr. Lister used Facebook to share his daily discoveries of history and culture as he travelled and we were able to see first hand and learn a great deal, but some of these ventures were absolutely scary and many of us would have returned home or gone to safer destinations. Be that as it may, he persevered and when you talk to him, he has so many unforgettable vivid memories.
Terry’s recent award in the Holiday category was announced by Independent Press Awards for Peace, Joy and Love: Christmas Across Africa, which is his fifth book. It joins Immersed in West Africa and A New Day Dawns as an award-winning book. It highlights how Christmas is celebrated in 17 African nations. It received many favourable reviews revealing many of the experiences of African people.
The competition is judged by experts from different aspects of the book industry, including publishers, writers, editors, book cover designers and professional copywriters. Selected IPA Award Winners and Distinguished Favorites are based on overall excellence.
In a press release, awards sponsor Gabrielle Olczak said, “In 2023, the Independent Press Award had entries worldwide. Authors and publishers from countries such as Australia, Bermuda, Canada, Germany, India, Japan, Norway, Scotland, and South Africa participated.
“Books submitted included writers based in cities such as Atlanta to Los Angeles; London to Nova Scotia; from Cape Town to Mumbai; from Albuquerque to New York City, as well as others.
“We are proud to announce the winners and distinguished favorites in our annual 2023 Independent Press Award. This year included an array of quality and diverse independent books.
“Independent publishing is pushing on every corner of the earth with great content. We are thrilled to be highlighting key titles representing global independent publishing.

Covid unfortunately prevented Mr. Lister’s travels in the fall of 2019 after Morocco, Tunisia and Ethiopia. Organized almost exclusively by himself using the internet to arrange his accommodations, land travel, etc, he hopes to eventually travel to Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
