Trivia Quiz Event To Raise Money For PALS
[Written by Stephen Wright]
A trivia quiz will be held at Bella Vista Bar and Grill at Port Royal Golf Course as part of a fundraiser for cancer charity PALS on Tuesday [March 14].
Organised by Bosom Buddies, a local group of women who have raised around $1.6 million for cancer care on the island since forming 17 years ago, the fourth edition of the quiz will be the biggest yet, with more than 100 people expected to attend.
Chrissy Wetherhill, the Bosom Buddies founder, hopes the event, which features dinner, a cash bar, a raffle and a silent auction, will raise around $15,000.
Fourteen teams, ranging from two to eight people, will compete in the quiz, with Shelley Johnson, better known as Shelley Thunder, a radio presenter, serving as quiz master.
The event starts at 6.30 pm, with the quiz beginning at 8 pm.
“It’s quite easy to sell tickets because PALS are so well thought of and have touched so many people’s lives,” Ms Wetherhill told Bernews. “Usually, we’ve had between 50 and 60 people; I’ve had to tell people, ‘I’m sorry, we just don’t have any more space.’
“Bella Vista Bar and Grill have always been very supportive of us and our events. It really is a fun night for such a great course.
“It never ceases to amaze me just how incredibly generous and giving people are.”
Ms Wetherhill recalls how a generous donation from Zane DeSilva, a PLP backbencher, and his wife Joanne, who were dining in the restaurant, made last year’s event even more memorable.
“Last year, towards the end of our event, a gentleman in the restaurant came up and said Pals had looked after several family members over the years and said he and his wife wanted to donate $20,000 to the event,” she added.
“It was unbelievable! We can’t thank Zane and Joanne DeSilva for such an amazing donation and support.”
