Three local biker groups – the Thunder Posse Family, Two Stroke Legends and the Bermuda Long Riders – have raised $2,000 for Russ Ford, a former nurse of the year who helped increase HIV/Aids awareness in Bermuda in the 1980s.

Mr Ford, the founder of Agape House, suffered life-changing injuries after a fall at his home in February.

His family and friends hope to raise $200,000 via a GoFundMe page to help cover his medical expenses and purchase necessary equipment, such as a motorised wheelchair and a bed for those with spinal injuries.

The men and women from the three biker groups rode from Dockyard and back on Sunday, April 16, stopping at Sinky Bay, Southampton, which was Mr Ford’s childhood neighbourhood.

They handed over a cheque to the family and friends of Mr Ford at the layby above the former Sonesta Beach Resort in Southampton on Sunday [April 23].

Vincent Belboda, of the Thunder Posse Family, organised the ride and described Mr Ford as a “guy who does things for others” and said about 60 bikers participated in the ride.

“I did this from my heart,” Mr Belboda told Bernews. “[Mr Ford] always does things to help other people. He deserves some help.

“Since I was a kid, I’ve known him as a guy who does things for the community.

“I reached out to the other biker groups; we all came together. It was a great day.”
