Bermudian cyclist Caitlin Conyers overcame adversity to win the 32nd annual Puma Women’s Cross Country Classic in Belize yesterday [April 2].
Conyers, representing Winners Edge, recovered from a flat tire to dominate the race from Colombus Park, San Ignacio to Digi Park, Belize City.
She rode solo after breaking away between Old Belize and the 5½-mile Bourdon Canal Bridge. She completed the 70-mile race in 3hr 48min.
Mexican Diana Valeria Rodriguez, of Team Navecamp, came second and defending champion Katy Sorrell, of the United States, placed third.
Conyers did not have a spare wheel when she suffered mechanical problems, but was helped by Belizean rider Kaya Cattouse’s LA Sweet team. Cattouse finished fourth.
