Minister of Economy and Labour Jason Hayward is offering his thanks to the organizers and sponsors of the International Technology Summit, which took place in Hamilton from April 11 to April 14.

A Government spokesperson said, “This year’s International Technology Summit, hosted in partnership with the Government of Bermuda’s Economic Development Department, Penrose Partners, 3iQ Corp., and BITA, brought together innovators, regulators, and executives from Bermuda, Canada, the US, India, the UK, and other jurisdictions to explore the latest breakthroughs in blockchain, artificial intelligence, and FinTech.

“It included interactive panel discussions on various aspects of innovative tech, fintech, relevant regulation, and the future of insurance and several presentations, panel discussions, and a speed-networking career fair.

“Local startups, international tech leaders, and investors gathered at the Ignite incubator in Hamilton to better understand the many opportunities and how Bermuda can capitalise on them for sustained economic growth through innovative tech adoption.

“Premier and Minister of Finance David Burt closed out the first day with a fireside chat alongside CoinDesk Chief Content Officer, Michael Casey.

“Also of note during the event was a Digital Privacy & Cybersecurity panel discussion moderated by Polina Branco, Executive Board Member at Celeste Ventures and CEO of Two Point Collective and PTIX, which included an expert panel consisting of:

  • Dr. Marisa Stones: PATI/PIPA Unit, The Government of Bermuda

  • Liat Shetret: Director of Global Policy and Regulation at Elliptic
  • Samantha Simms: CEO, The Information Collective

“These women in tech shared their insights on the challenges and opportunities brought about by Data Protection and Cybersecurity, focusing on the significance of data protection and security in our increasingly digital world and what it means for Bermuda as a jurisdiction that prides itself on being a uniquely well-positioned global fintech hub.”

Dr. Stones said, “It was an honour to be invited to the International Technology Summit and to join the Digital Privacy and Cybersecurity Panel. Our moderator led an exciting discussion, and her questions were topical and highly relevant, based on current events that organisations are dealing with right now.

“My fellow panellists provided such informed, evidence-based, and knowledge-based responses. It was a pleasure getting to know these talented women.”

Minister Hayward said, “This event continues to impact individuals and businesses in Bermuda positively. Also, as technology is ever-changing, remaining abreast of the latest developments is vital to growing Bermuda’s economy.”
