PLP To Host Town Hall On Proposed Hotel SDO

April 19, 2023

The PLP will host a Town Hall on the Fairmont Southampton Special Development Order [SDO] application at 7pm on Tuesday, April 25th at the Heron Bay Primary School, with representatives from Gencom also set to attend.

A spokesperson said, “The Progressive Labour Party [PLP] announced today that their representatives for constituencies 29, 30, and 31 will host a Town Hall meeting on April 25th, 2023, to discuss the recent Special Development Order [SDO] application. The event will take place at Heron Bay Primary School at 7:00pm

“The Town Hall aims to provide a platform for local residents to voice their concerns and be informed of matters relating to the SDO application. The PLP encourages all residents to participate in this important dialogue to ensure their views are taken into account by their Members of Parliament representatives.

“Representatives from Gencom, the developer involved in the project, will also be in attendance to provide additional information and answer questions from the public. The PLP firmly believes in the importance of transparency and open communication between all stakeholders, and this event will serve as an opportunity for meaningful discussion.

“The Progressive Labour Party is committed to hearing from its constituents and making well-informed decisions that serve the best interests of the community. All residents of constituencies 29, 30, and 31 are encouraged to attend and let their voices be heard.

Event Details:

    2 things:

    * our finance minister NEEDS to be there.
    * this affects more than just the residents of those constituencies – every resident on the island should be invited and should attend.

    • Ringmaster says:

If the PLP really cared about what the people think, Burt has to be there, but he won’t show his face, neither will Burch.
Make it clear to the other 3 to start looking for another job at the next election. MPs only pay attention when they may lose their seat.

  2. Ringmaster says:

Send in rent a crowd to scream No SDO, No SDO.

Should be interesting when it gets to demanding each MP to declare their interests, as if they would.

  3. Joe Bloggs says:

I won’t be going. The last time I went to a PLP organised “Town Hall” I was threatened with violence for asking a question.

  4. Question says:

They have Crystal Caesar there? She hasn’t appeared in years. How did that investigation of her end up?

    • sandgrownan says:

Not exactly the fizziest drink in the fridge.

I presume, there investigation was covered up, swept under the carpet, otherwise quietly forgotten.

  5. John E. Thorne says:

This should be televised for the whole island to watch and available on CITV afterwards.

  6. Marine Life says:

Hopefully all the Naysayers will try to be respectful. The voice of a naysayer is usually negative and restrictive most of the time. Progress? Nope! They wonder why we can’t achieve progress in this country with the economy contracting for many years, while many of my fellow Bermudians continue to move to greener pastures- OVERSEAS!

    • Toodle-oo says:

‘Progress’ and covering what very little green space we have left with 6 story high concrete monoliths that only a very few will benefit from are two very different things .

    • Joe Bloggs says:

“Hopefully all the Naysayers will try to be respectful.”

Hopefully the naysayers will be allowed in the room!

As I said above, the last time I went to a PLP organised “Town Hall” I was threatened with violence for asking a question. No naysaying involved.

    • saud says:

They get the respect they deserve. Didn’t you ever learn that?

  7. sandgrownan says:

Why don’t they just give Morgan’s Point to Gencom?

Finish what was started, renovate SP, no encroachment on green space. Get on with it.

    • Unbelievable says:

That’s a great idea and one I said the other day.

Also, why is Zane going to be at this town hall? You know that ICS is going to get a big fat contract for working on this development. The one MP with the best Govt contracts.

  8. IslandChild says:

What I want to know is why they don’t just deal with the hotel aspect first, maybe including a couple of small buildings for tourist/residential, with leave to expand in the future subject to whatever rules are in place at that time.

Why does the government now have to agree to six-storey buildings years in advance of their planned building?

    • Joe Bloggs says:

Because Gencom wants the money generated by sales of the “fractional units” to declare dividends and fund the renovations to the 50 year old hotel building.

It does not want to risk its own money.

      • Ringmaster says:

Could become quite an eventful and lively meeting without Burt there. Gencom may well go off the PLP script regarding funding if they face serious questioning, and I think they will.

        • Joe Bloggs says:

In my experience (which admittedly goes back some years), anyone who asks a question the PLP does not like is threatened with violence and ejected from the Town Hall

  9. Don Wills says:

    What you running from Burt?

    Show your face. Pathetic.

    • sandgrownan says:

He doesn’t want to face uncomfortable questions. He’s a coward.

  10. You kidding? says:

The very sad thing is that these PLP reps are being sent to their undoing !! Just like ‘browns cows’…
Good luck PLP …with a bankrupt Colony ! Only yourselves to blame….

  11. sandgrownan says:

    Q. Is anyone “allowed” to go and ask questions, or is it restricted to those three constituencies?
