Tyler Smith believes he is moving in the “right direction” after finishing sixth in the Americas Triathlon Cup in Saint Peters, Missouri, at the weekend.
The Bermudian completed the sprint-distance course – 750-metre swim, 20-kilometre bike and 5km run – in 55min 17sec, with splits of 9:43, 28:07 and 16:21.
Canadian Charles Paquet won the race in 54:19, with his compatriot Jeremy Briand coming second in 54:40 and American Darr Smith rounding out the podium in 54:53.
“Another step in the right direction,” Smith wrote on Instagram.
“That wraps up my first big block of racing for the year. While I still haven’t found that elusive podium, I’ve knocked off my main target of moving up the world rankings, which should allow me to get in bigger races over the summer.
“After living the taper life for the last five weeks, I’m really looking forward to getting some training done at altitude in Boulder! Time to work.”
