As a part of its 125th anniversary celebrations, the Berkeley Educational Society will be hosting ‘Dress Code Runway Show’ — a Tea, Hat, and Fashion show fundraiser — on June 11th.

“The idea behind this event is to recognize and celebrate Berkeley’s contribution, through its students and alumni, to Bermuda’s fashion culture ‘Through the Ages,” said Maxine Esdaille, Chair of the Planning Committee.

A spokesperson said, “In previous eras, afternoon tea parties, after-church luncheons, and late afternoon picnics, were the epitome of social events, where only the latest fashions were worn by attendees, ladies and gentlemen both. This three-part event will start with an afternoon tea, which is sponsored by the Bermuda HealthCare Services in honour of Helene Darrell Brown, Class of 1940.

“As hats were prominently worn during all social occasions of that era, the second part of the event will feature a hat show with both male and female models.

“Hats have always been a fascinating aspect of Bermudian culture for both men and women,” said Dorothy Trott, a member of the planning committee.

“The hat show, with both ladies and men modeling, will celebrate the journey of hat-wearing in our community and how it has shaped aspects of our culture.”

The hats on display are supplied by Jazzy’s Boutique, and from personal collections.

The spokesperson said, “The final portion of the afternoon will be the fashion show featuring 5 Berkeley Alumni Fashion Designers, who are prominent both locally and internationally. The fashion show is sure to be the highlight of the afternoon! The designers are:

“Outside of the fashion, entertainment will feature an array of local talent, including singers, dancers, and instrumentalists.

“The show takes place in the cafetorium but the entrance will be from the patio which is on the left of the main parking area. The weather will be warmer, and the patio offers a great opportunity to mingle and enjoy the view as you await the start of the show. You will also be able to purchase drinks with fizz from the Bubbly Bar which will be set up there. The Bubbly Bar will be cash only and open from 2:30pm. The show starts at 3:30pm sharp.

“Dress to impress, hats are encouraged. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased online at PTIX.bm, from the school office, and 27th Century Boutique. For more information, contact Maxine Esdaille at 504-7749 or email gmesdaille@gmail.com.”
