CedarBridge Students Host Fashion Flair Show

The ‘Fashion Flair’ event was held by the CedarBridge Academy Fashion and Textile students, along with their teacher Mrs. Golda DeMattos.
Mrs. DeMattos described the event as being designed to pique her pupils’ interest in fashion design while also exposing them to numerous occupations in the field of fashion and textiles.
Fashion Flair featured pieces from student designers: Keysay Bell, Jada Blackwood, Jena Caines, Deme Dill-Douglas, Zhuri Durham, Tori Hayward, Khileisha Rawlins-Dill, Deontae Scott, Nel’Lyah Simons, Taurean Thomas, Amilia Thompson, and Sierra Whitehead. The edits presented pants, skirts, shorts, pantsuits, with a serving of matching sets.
Zhuri Durham and Deontae Scott, Fashion and Textile students, explained that their enthusiasm for sewing began when they were given a sewing machine by a family member and were later taught to read patterns and cut by their grandmother. They both encouraged students to learn a skill like sewing since it is enjoyable and can also be used to generate income as well as establish a brand.
The event, included a fashion show, refreshments prepared by the Meal Management and Hospitality students, décor created by Head Librarian, Mrs. Candace Seymour, backstage supervisor, Mrs. Rhonda Edwards-Adams, and hairstyles by Cosmetology students.
Several spectators hailed Fashion Flair models and the overall event as fierce, impressive and entertaining.
Mrs. DeMattos shared that the main purpose of the Fashion and Textiles course is to develop the students creative and aesthetic awareness, as well as to arouse their interest in the creative use of textiles. Furthermore, students will acquire a critical and well-informed approach to clothing production. In the context of fashion and textiles, they will also be able to evaluate suitability and recognize quality.
