Marissa Dyer Wins ‘Mother Of The Year’
The Continental Society of Bermuda hosted their annual Mother of the Year essay competition, with Marissa Dyer winning the award thanks to a heartfelt essay from her daughter A’Mariss Dyer.
A spokesperson said, “Ms Dyer was elated to hear that she has been bestowed this honour. She and A’Mariss were congratulated in West Pembroke Primary’s assembly where A’Mariss is a primary three student.”
When asked how she felt about being ‘Mother of the Year’, Ms. Dyer commented, “This is all very surreal to me. I’m always second-guessing myself when it comes to my children. Being a mother of three, I am forever putting myself on the back burner as I live for my kids wants and needs.
“A’Mariss and I share a very special bond; she’s always vocal about how much she loves me and happy that I’m her mom. A’Mariss is very intelligent and ambitious. Anything she puts her mind to, she succeeds at. That’s something I admire about her. I’m truly humbled by this award as it is reassurance that all my hard work, patience and tears do not go unnoticed. My
strength comes from raising my children.”
The Continental Society of Bermuda hosted their annual ‘Mother of the Year’ essay competition, with seven primary schools participating, receiving essays from 113 primary three and four students. This is the 54th year that the women of The Society have awarded this honor to a local mother.

A’Mariss Dyer’s ‘Mother of the Year’ essay follows below:
Why my Mother Should be Mother of the Year
Wow I say, I have the best gift I could have ever asked for. I have the best Mother ever! My mom has brown eyes just like me. My mom once told me that I make her smile not just because I do amazing things, but because I was gifted to her.
My Mom takes me to my appointments on time. My mom helps me train for my races.
She supports me in my races. She takes care of me when I’m sick. She listens to my stories I bring home.
My mom cooks good and healthy food for me. When she asks me what do I want for dinner I say your famous healthy dinner. I don’t know what I would do without my mother. She pushes me to my levels. My mother tells me everyday when you grow up you will be a super star. She also says you will be my hero. My mother should be mother of the year because she helps and cares for other people and also me.
