Northlands Primary School marked Global Play Day, with an “exciting lineup of activities, including sorting and stacking games, puzzles, trampolines, ping pong, skipping, football, and dancing.”
A Government spokesperson said, “The Global Play Day initiative spotlights the vital role of play in childhood development, inspiring schools and families everywhere to embrace free, unstructured playtime.
“Northlands Primary School organises an exciting lineup of activities, including sorting and stacking games, puzzles, trampolines, ping pong, skipping, football, and dancing. These activities get students moving and enhance problem-solving skills, critical thinking, resilience, and social bonds—all in a stress-free, laughter-filled environment.
“Students step away from traditional lessons, assessments, and screens on this special day to immerse themselves in hands-on, interactive experiences that fuel creativity, curiosity, and connection. They bring their favourite non-electronic toys to share with friends, fostering collaboration and teamwork in a joyful and engaging atmosphere.
“Studies show that play is essential for cognitive growth, communication skills, and emotional well-being. This year’s event perfectly aligns with National School Counseling Week, reinforcing the commitment to prioritising students’ mental, emotional, and physical wellness.”
School Counsellor La-Keesha Bean expressed her excitement: “At Northlands Primary School, we are incredibly proud to be the only school in Bermuda participating and registered in Global Play Day.
Ms. Bean continued, “The fact that Global Play Day coincides with National School Counselling Week [February 3 -7] further strengthens our focus on well-being and ensuring every child thrives.
“Northlands Primary School continues to champion the power of play in education and everyday life. We are committed to creating a fun, dynamic, and enriching experience for all.”
