Top Names To Compete In USATF Grand Prix

Former Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell will be among the top names heading to the island for the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix at the Flora Duffy Stadium on Sunday [May 21].

Powell, 40, has twice held the 100 metres world record and won gold medals in the 4×100 relays at the Olympic Games and World Championships. He retired in November 2022.

Other names announced in a video produced by the Bermuda Tourism Authority on social media are Noah Lyles, a regular visitor to the island, who won bronze in the 200 at the Olympics in Tokyo in 2021, and American triple jumper Will Claye, who won silver at the London Olympics in 2012 and Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016.

Also sprinkling stardust on the event, which serves as the fifth stop on the World Athletics Continental Tour – Gold, will be Canadian Andre De Grasse, who won gold in the 200 in Tokyo, and American triple jumper Christian Taylor, a four-time world champion, who clinched gold at London 2012 and Rio 2016.
