Over $200,000 Raised For Residential Facility
Habitat for Humanity held a fundraiser at Agar’s Island in support of the St. James Rectory Project in Somerset, which raised over $200,000 for the project.
The plan involves a partnership between the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute, Habitat for Humanity and the Anglican Church, and aims to see the old St. James’ Church rectory in Sandys renovated and used as a residential facility which will also “provide 24-hour, state-of-the-art treatment for those requiring mental health services.”
The venue for the ‘Vegas in the Vaults’ fundraiser was provided by Lillian Martin, and Sheelagh Cooper commented, “We are hugely indebted to Lillian Martin who not only provided the amazing Vaults for the event but donated an additional $75,000 to the campaign. Lillian has been a long-time supporter of Habitat along with countless other charitable organizations in Bermuda.”
A spokesperson said, “Almost 130 people joined the festivities which included a cocktail reception with a Grey Goose Essences Bar followed by an evening in the Vaults, each vault offering a different experience. The fundraising at the event included a silent auction, raffles and a live auction. Delicious food from around the world was served up by Island Restaurant Group paired by wines provided by Burrows Lightbourn.
Talcott Representatives Karen Gonsalves and Steve Cernich with Habitat for Humanity Chair Sheelagh Cooper:
“With ticket sales, donations and fundraising on the evening, the event netted over $200,000 for the project. The funds raised will go towards the restoration of the St. James Rectory into a purpose-built Residential Treatment Home.”
“Habitat for Humanity would like to thank Talcott Re for being the event’s key sponsor. Their contribution to the event went a long way in helping the charity achieve this incredible amount of money in one evening. Thanks also to Bacardi and Burrows Lightbourn for supplying some of the liquor and wine for the event.
“Other contributors were Waterfront Group and Proserve. And of course, an event like this would not be possible without our attendees who really enjoyed the event and contributed greatly to the fundraising efforts that evening. It took a great team of volunteers and committee members to bring this amazing event to life.”
There is hope.
