Bermuda Win 16 More Medals In The Bahamas
Bermuda swimmers were back in the pool at the 2023 Bahamas National Swimming Championships in Nassau and continued to impress, winning another 16 medals.
Up first was the 400m freestyle. In the girls 13-14 age group, Arabella Newport Derbyshire won the silver medal in a time 4:55.06, Marleigh Howes claimed the bronze medal in a time of 4:56.08, Elanna Fulton was fifth in a time of 4:59.05, and Katherine Wheddon was sixth in a time of 5:02.95.
In the boys 13-14 freestyle, Connor Hupman placed fourth in a time of 4:34.93. In the boys 15-17 age group, Thomas Cechini won the bronze medal touching the wall in a time of 4:24.40. Taylor White finished with the silver medal in the girls 18 & over in a time of 4:49.27 and Sam Williamson swam to gold in a time of 4:17.71 in the boys 18 & over age group.
The 50m freestyle was the next. In the 13-14 girls age group Marleigh Howes swam to a silver medal position in a time of 28.22, Elanna Fulton was fourth in a time of 28.81, and Katherine Wheddon was seventh in a time of 29.65. Connor Hupman also swam to the silver medal place in the boys 13 -14 age group in a time of 25.96.
Imojen Judd captured a bronze medal in the girls 15-16 age group in a time of 28.12. In the boys 15-17 age group Flynn Watson-Brown finished fifth in a time of 24.81. In the boys 18 & over, Finn Moseley claimed the bronze medal in a time of 24.30 and Caleb Ingham was fourth in a time of 24.44.
The 100m breaststroke was the next event where Tallulah Parkinson finished fifth in a time of 1:27.80 in the girls 11-12 age group. In the boys 13 to 14 age group, Noah Maranzana finished eighth in a time of 1:25.61. In the boys 15-17 age group, Rhys Insley finished fourth in a time of 1:11.17. Sam Williamson finished fourth in the boys 18 & over event in a time of 1:07.32.
The 200m backstroke rounded out the night’s individual events with Arabella Newport Derbyshire claiming the gold medal in a time of 2:35.53 in the girls 13-14 age group, Marleigh Howes won the silver medal in a time of 2:37.33 and Violet Smith won the bronze medal in a time of 2:42.00. Taylor White claimed gold in the girls 18 & over in a time of 2:28.93 and Brian Desmond also claimed gold in the boys 18 & over in a time of 2:18.63.
The night concluded with the 400m freestyle relay where Marleigh Howes, Arabella Newport Derbyshire, Katherine Wheddon and Elanna Fulton won the girls 13-14 age group gold medal in a time of 4:09.30, and then the 18 & over boys team made up of Finn Moseley, Brian Desmond, Sam Williamson and Caleb Ingham won gold in a time of 3:38.63.
