Bermuda’s athletes made a triumphant return home following their impressive performance at the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin, Germany that saw them win 11 medals.

The Bermuda team claimed a total of two gold, one silver, and eight bronze medals, which surpassed the eight medals they won at the previous Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates in 2019.

Sacha Richardson, the Special Olympics Bermuda public relations delegation staff member, previously told Bernews: “Our athletes did really well and had a great time at the Games. The excitement for all the athletes was there from start to finish, even for those who weren’t winning medals.

“Our athletes’ focus wasn’t on winning gold, silver or bronze; it was just to perform for themselves, their families and Bermuda. Winning medals and participation medals were the icing on the cake.”

The team was welcomed home by family, friends, multiple Cabinet Ministers and Premier David Burt, with the Premier telling the team, “I know that you’ve had an amazing two and a half weeks in Germany. I just want to say that the entire country is so proud of what you have done, how you have represented our country, bringing back 11 medals.”
