Traffic: BBA National Road Race Championship
The BBA National Road Race Championship will take place on Sunday [June 18] and will result in some road closures.
A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Public Works wishes to inform motorists that the BBA National Road Race Championship will take place on Sunday, June 18th, 2023 between the hours of 7:30 am and 11:00 am and the following roads will be closed to all vehicular traffic.
“Commencing on Middle Road by Whitney Institute head west to Verdmont Road, then left on St. Mark’s Road, then left on South Road to Paynter’s Road. Turn left onto Paynter’s Road and right onto Harrington Sound Road and head east. Proceed up Wilkinson Avenue to the Blue Hole roundabout and head west on North Shore Road until Flatts. Then head up the hill on Middle Road back to Whitney Institute. There will be multiple races along this route and up to 6 laps performed.
“Traffic Control: The Races will commence on Sunday, June 18th, 2023. The first Open Male race commences at 8:00 am. It will be followed by the Junior Male race at 8:05am, the Masters Male Race at 8:10am and Open & Junior Female race at 8:12am. All races are expected to be concluded by 11:00 am. All motorists are expected to use caution and avoid collision with race participants. The race route will be under the direction of Bermuda Police Service and Race Officials. Motorists are asked to follow the direction of the Police and Race Officials instructions to assist with traffic control for this event.
Road Closures:
- Middle Road: From North Shore Road to Verdmont Road
- Verdmont Road: From Middle Road to St. Mark’s Road
- St. Mark’s Road: From Verdmont Road to South Road
- South Road: From St. Mark’s Road to Paynter’s Road
- Paynter’s Road: From South Road to Harrington Sound Road
- Harrington Sound Road: From Paynter’s Road to Wilkinson Avenue
- Wilkinson Avenue: From Harrington Sound Road to North Shore Road
- North Shore Road: From Wilkinson Avenue to Middle Road in Flatts
“There will be no parking restriction for this race and motorists are permitted to park in designated parking bays along any part of the race route. Additionally, motorists must not block the race route or impede the participants in the Triathlon.
“The Ministry of Public Works wishes to encourage the full cooperation of the motoring public and apologizes for any inconvenience that may result.
“In addition, the Bermuda Police Service are hereby authorized to ‘Close-Off’ streets or portions of streets and authorize parking as the Commissioner of Police decides.”
This isn’t very clear if it’s a single lane closure or the whole road is closed. Quite odd they will shut off access to the airport for several hours.
