Tyler Smith has reflected on his performance at the World Triathlon Cup Huatulco in Mexico, where he finished 25th on Saturday [June 17].
The Bermudian finished the sprint-distance race – 750-metre swim, 20-kilometre bike and 5km run – in 55min 45sec. His splits were 9:01, 28:57 and 16:32.
“Really enjoyed racing in tough conditions in Mexico,” Smith wrote on Instagram. “Good sensations in the swim and bike but off the mark in the run and gave myself a sloppy penalty in T2.
“Great to be back at a World Cup with the Asics development team after several years. It’s incredible how much of a difference having support at races can make.
“The trends in training have been positive, but sometimes there’s a lag between getting fit and actually being able to express those finishes in racing. Looking forward to getting there.”
The race was won by David Castro Fajardo, of Spain, in 54:13, with Tyler Mislawchuk, of Canada, coming second in 54:14, and Aram Mitchell Penaflor Moysen finishing third in 54:17.
