Amendments Planned For Customs Duty Relief
On Friday [July 14], in the House of Assembly, the Premier and Finance Minister David Burt “will continue reforms to provide more tax relief to aid and assist critical initiatives,” the Government said, adding that “the Customs Tariff Amendment [No.2] Bill will provide Customs duty relief for childcare centres and Community and Sports facilities looking to upgrade their facilities.”
Premier Burt said, “As a Government, we appreciate the critical role these organisations play in the development of our children and the strengthening of our community, and with these duty relief initiatives, the Government is proud to support them in their efforts.”
The spokesperson said, “The Bill also proposes the duty-free importation of asphalt to ensure the private sector can assist in the major road works set to start at the end of current trenching works. This relief will allow for additional road paving to take place, at lower costs, as we continue to improve our roadways’ conditions and ensure all road users’ safety.
“The Bermuda Hospitals Board will receive customs duty exemptions to improve its financial situation and enable them to allocate more resources for healthcare services.
Premier Burt continued, “The Progressive Labour Party Government is committed to providing relief for the people of Bermuda during these unprecedented times. We recently revised the Sugar Tax so that items containing minimal amounts of sugar are no longer subject to the Sugar Tax, eliminated customs duty on all school uniforms and uniforms for international-level sports teams, and also ensured that businesses within the personal care and fitness sector are exempt from duty when looking to make capital upgrades.
“We are proud to have partnered with major local grocers to ensure 21 essential goods received at least a 10% price reduction. This legislation further demonstrates our commitment to do more.”

This is BS, we are paying salaries for W&E, this is privatizing the work W&E do.
Where are the marches, where is the uproar?
Where are the marches, where is the uproar when the PLP Government sells or allows to be sold to foreigners another piece of Bermuda?
Maybe if the OBA Opposition party organized marches against the PLP Government the undecided voters could see what the party is all about!
Yet another collection of give backs that have questionable value.
Has anyone seen any corresponding Government cuts in spending needed to pay for these trinkets?
