The Bermuda women’s football team are guaranteed to win either a silver or gold medal after beating the Isle of Man in the semi-finals of the NatWest International Island Games in Guernsey today [July 13].

LeiLanni Nesbeth, the Bermuda forward, headed home the winner early in the second half to book Bermuda a place in the final against the Western Isles tomorrow.

Bermuda are unbeaten in four matches in Guernsey and yet to concede a goal in more than 360 minutes of competitive action.

Nesbeth and captain Eva Frazzoni went the closest to scoring for Bermuda in the first half, having shots saved by the Isle of Man goalkeeper, who also denied Ashley Tutas from long range in the second period.

Nesbeth broke the deadlock in the 54th minute with a superb header from an Emily Cabral corner.

Naquita Robinson, the Bermuda coach, said she always felt confident her side could overcome the challenge posed by the Isle of Man and praised her players’ togetherness and camaraderie.

“These girls dig deep for each other,” Robinson told Bernews. “They’re a family and fight for each other.

“I’m so excited for the gold medal match tomorrow. I’m so proud of these girls.”
