Bermuda High School Announces 2023 IB Results

The Bermuda High School [BHS] announced the results of its 2023 International Baccalaureate Diploma cohort.

New Head of School, Ms. Carol A. Swainson commented, “I am pleased to share this excellent set of exam results for our Class of 2023. 100% of our students have achieved their IB Diplomas, which is well above the worldwide pass rate of 79.3%, and they will all begin their tertiary education in the Fall at one of their top choice universities. I am excited to be joining a school where it is clear that students work hard to achieve their goals alongside dedicated teachers who support them to fulfill their potential.”

The spokesperson said, “The average Diploma point score for the 2023 BHS cohort was 33 points, well above the worldwide average of 30 points. The top students’ results and university destinations are below:

  • Ava Gibson 42 points – University College London, UK, Law
  • Laura Hupman 41 points – Dalhousie University, Canada, Mathematics
  • Marli Spriggs 41 points – University of Warwick, UK, Politics, Philosophy and Economics Anna Marcotte 38 points – University of Western Ontario, Business
  • Sierra DeSousa 36 points – University of Leeds, UK, Criminal Justice and Criminology Anya Podgaits 36 points – McGill University, Canada, Statistics”

Head of IB, Sarah Wheddon remarked, “The 2023 exam session ran smoothly for our graduates and I am so proud of how they have supported each other throughout the two year IB programme. They are an especially close year group and they have each demonstrated leadership skills in their own way and been excellent role models for our younger students. They have shown growth and resilience and I am confident that they are ready for the next chapter in their education.”

The spokesperson said, “This year’s graduates have a diverse range of interests, talents and career plans for the future, and they are heading off to universities in Canada, the USA, UK and Europe. Some of the other disciplines to be studied include Environmental, Biomedical and Geographical Sciences, Fine Art, Physics / Astrophysics and Sports Management

“In Canada, students will attend Dalhousie University, McGill University, University of Western Ontario, and University of Toronto.

“Graduates going to the USA will attend the University of Vermont and James Madison University. In the UK, students will be attending the Universities of Bournemouth, Brighton, Exeter, Leeds, Leicester, Reading, Surrey, Warwick and University College London.”
