Aug 31: Charman Prize Applications Deadline
Artists are reminded that the deadline for applications to the Charman Prize is Thursday, August 31.
A spokesperson said, “The deadline for The Charman Prize at Masterworks Museum is quickly approaching, and the Museum is encouraging artists once again to consider entering this unique competition. This biennial art competition, now in its eleventh edition is dedicated to showcasing and celebrating the exceptional talent of local artists in Bermuda.
“The Charman Prize continues to be generously sponsored by patron John Charman, who has been a longstanding supporter of Bermuda’s vibrant art community. This year’s competition promises to be captivating as it showcases the diversity of artistic expressions that embody the spirit and essence of Bermuda through the lens of the theme, ‘The Local Seen’.
“The Masterworks Museum is committed to fostering creativity and nurturing the talents of local artists. The Charman Prize provides a platform for both emerging and established artists alike to display their works to a wider audience, fostering a sense of community and appreciation for the arts. The competition encourages artists to explore their unique perspectives, push boundaries and challenge traditional norms.”
“The Charman Prize is a celebration of the immense artistic talent that thrives within our island community,” says Risa Hunter, Executive Director of Masterworks Museum. “This competition not only encourages the growth and development of our local artists but also inspires the entire community to engage with and appreciate the beauty and creativity that surrounds us.”
The spokesperson said, “This year, two of the three international judges will be new to the Prize, with the panel being composed of two esteemed art professionals, and an international artist. They will assess each submission based on originality, technical skill, creativity, and pertinence to the theme, to determine the winning artists. The winner of The Charman Prize will be awarded a $10,000 cash prize, as well, for each of the four judging criteria, there will be a winner awarded $2,500. Also, after the success with the 10th Charman Prize, there will once again be a People’s Choice Award.
“Artists are reminded that the deadline for applications to the Charman Prize is Thursday August 31, with artwork delivery shortly thereafter, on either Friday, September 1, or Saturday September 2. Art enthusiasts, locals, and visitors alike are invited to join Masterworks Museum as we celebrate the incredible talent and creativity of Bermuda’s artistic community this December. The Charman Prize exhibition will be open to the public from December 16, 2023 – March 31, 2024.
