BELCO Restore Power After Outage In West End

BELCO confirmed there was a “fault on their transmission network” last night [Aug 12] resulting in approximately 11,400 customers in the western parishes temporarily losing power.

A spokesperson said, “Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited [BELCO] today advised that there was a fault on their transmission network last night resulting in the temporary loss of power to customers in the West end of the island between Warwick and Somerset.

“Last night at approximately 10:49pm, BELCO experienced a fault on its undergrounded transmission network, resulting in a loss of supply to the Western end of the island, affecting approximately 11,400 customers.

“Response personnel were quickly mobilised and following a review of events, the faulted section was isolated and restoration work commenced within the hour, with approximately 10,500 customers restored by 1:00am and all customers restored by 1:50am.

“Testing to determine the exact location of the fault in the undergrounded transmission system is in progress to be followed by excavation works and repairs.”
