Hurricane Franklin remains a ‘potential threat’ to Bermuda and the Bermuda Weather Service “expect to be issuing a Tropical Storm Watch” on Monday [Aug 28].

The BWS said, “After an afternoon chat with the National Hurricane Center, it seems that Franklin’s forecast is becoming a bit more consistent. We now expect to be issuing a Tropical Storm Watch with the 6am update on Monday, 28th August. A tropical storm warning is still expected as Franklin’s outermost winds will pass through the area mainly on Wednesday. Please stay up to date with local conditions at www.weather.bm and for more details on Franklin please visit www.nhc.noaa.gov.”

The current BWS forecast states, “Mostly fine weather lingers around despite a brief shower or two. Hurricane Franklin, now a category 2, is a potential threat to Bermuda and will be closely monitored to our distant south. Franklin is expected to rapidly intensify as it slowly advances towards our west over the next few days. Swells and rip currents will continue to develop today into next week, and the potential for tropical storm conditions spread over us through midweek.”
