Weather Service Updates On Hurricane Franklin
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Bermuda today [Aug 30] as Hurricane Franklin is expected to bring strong winds to the island.
The BWS posted the graphic online below, saying, “The 6am update has Hurricane Franklin passing a bit closer, slower, and with a slightly larger wind field. What this means is that the tropical storm force winds are expected to reach the Island around 1pm and then move off the Island around 10pm this evening.
“Now remember timing and forecasts can change, but overall the strongest winds remain 30-40 knots sustained, gusts to 50 knots especially in the northern marine area and elevated and/or exposed areas. Remember any rain bands passing over can bring heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms.
“Hurricane Idalia is also expected to slowly come our way as a tropical storm this weekend. It’s progress will be severely hampered by ridging trying to build from the northwest. We may see it stalled to our near southwest to south. Idalia’s forecast remains very uncertain, but we will continue to keep our forecasts update with the best information available. Stay safe and keep updated at www.weather.bm.”
