Police Confirm: Two People Have Been Shot

[Updated] The police have confirmed that there was a shooting this evening in Southampton, and two people have been injured.

The police said that, “We can confirm that two people have been injured. One individual sustained a bullet wound to the chest, the other an injury to the hand. Both individuals have now been transported to hospital.”

Update 1.12am: A police statement said, “Around 11:13 p.m. on Sunday, August 6th, 2023, police received several reports of gunshots in the Carolina Bay, George’s Bay Road area, Southampton.

“Upon the arrival of officers and other first responders at the scene, it was ascertained that two people were injured in the confirmed firearms incident. One victim was shot in the chest, the other sustained a bullet wound to the hand.

“Both victims were attended to at the scene by EMTs before being transported by ambulance to King Edward Hospital, where at last check, they continued to receive treatment for their injuries.

“An investigation into this matter has now begun and anyone with information is asked to call the main police number, 295-0011 or, the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers number, 800-8477. Update 1.30am: Another update from the police. The victim who was shot in the chest is now undergoing surgery.
