Bermuda Teams Compete In Beach Volleyball

Four players are representing Bermuda at the maiden Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association Under-21 Beach Volleyball Championships in Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Anijahe dos Santo Martin, 16, and Riley Morbey, 18, are involved in the men’s competition and Hailey Trott, 15, and Sophie Weikl, 14, are competing in the women’s division. Allison Settle has travelled as the team’s coach.
Martin and Morbey will face Dominica in the quarter-finals today [September 3].
The Bermuda men lost to Grenada 2-0 [17-21, 12-21] before beating the British Virgin Islands 2-0 [21-13, 21-17] and Saint Vincent 2-1 [19-21, 21-18, 15-12] yesterday.
Also competing yesterday, the Bermuda women lost 2-1 to Saint Vincent [21-16, 11-21, 17-15] and 2-1 [21-18, 6-21, 0-15] to Antigua.
Weikl picked up an injury against Antigua, with the team having to forfeit the quarter-finals against Dominica.
They are scheduled to play Saint Vincent in a placement match today.
The zonal championships are part of the Youth Development Pilot Project of the International Olympic Committee [IOC] and the Federation International de Volleyball [FIVB].
The three-year project is aimed at helping players from the region qualify for the World Under-21 Beach Volleyball Championships in 2025.
