The Department of Social Insurance advised that “as a precautionary measure, pension benefit payments ordinarily made by direct deposit on September 15th, will be processed today, earlier than usual, due to any disruption due to Hurricane Lee.”

A Government spokesperson said, “For those receiving pension cheques, they have been printed and delivered to the Post Office for delivery.”

“I am grateful to the Accountant Generals Office and the Department of Social Insurance, who have proactively ensured that pension payments are made in advance of any adverse weather that could impact persons having access to funds,” said Premier and Minister of Finance, David Burt. “It is important that our seniors can access their payments early to allow for any necessary storm preparations.

“As a reminder, as of September 2023, pension benefit payments have increased by 4.1 percent and therefore, basic contributory pensions have increased from $1,107 to $1,152, and the maximum pension benefit has increased from $1,607 to $1,673 per month. We are also proud of the fact that these increases reflect a $152 monthly increase in basic contributory pensions, since 2017, and a $192 monthly increase in the maximum pension benefit during the same time period.

“This Government reveres its seniors and believes it is essential to honor its commitment to increase pensions by the rate of inflation.”

The Government spokesperson said, “Members of the public can call the Department of Social Insurance directly at 294-9242 for any questions or queries.”
