Christopher To Present At Broadway Gala
Bermudian actor Nicholas Christopher will be among the presenters at Black Theatre United’s inaugural gala, A Salute to Broadway Legends: Past, Present, and Future, at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York on October 30.
Christopher recently stepped into the title role in the Broadway musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street after superstar singer Josh Groban tested positive for Covid-19. Christopher, whose brother Jonathan is among the ensemble cast, usually appears as rival barber Adolfo Pirelli.
Groban will also be among the presenters at the Black Theatre United’s inaugural gala along with Andréa Burns, Lorna Courtney, Wilson Cruz and Seth Rudetsky.
The evening will celebrate the influence that Black culture has had and continues to have on Broadway and feature performances by BTU founders Vanessa Williams, Norm Lewis, Audra McDonald, LaChanze, Billy Porter, Capathia Jenkins, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Darius de Haas, Natasha Yvette Williams and Lillias White.
The Gala will also honour Grammy-winning producer, singer, and songwriter Kandi Burruss; actor, director, producer, and philanthropist LaTanya Richardson Jackson; Oscar-winning actor and philanthropist Samual L. Jackson; Emmy, Grammy and Academy winner Common, among others.
The BTU was founded to create pathways for Black and other students and industry professionals historically marginalised in the theatre company.
Proceeds will support BTU’s empowering programmes and mentorships, student internships, BTU’s Annual Advocacy Summit, and BTU’s Educational programme.
