Flora Of Bermuda closed her two-year career with a fourth-place finish at the Newmarket Academy Godolphin Beacon Project Cornwallis Stakes at Newmarket Racecourse in Suffolk on Friday [October 13].

The two-year-old filly, owned by Bermuda Racing, was ridden by Oisin Murphy and went off as the 11-4 favourite in the five-furlong group-three race.

Simon Scupham, the Bermuda Racing chairman, said he believes Flora Of Bermuda did not get the “rub of the green” in her final race of the season.

“The worst of draws, very slow away and stopped in the final stages with Rosario coming right across her,” Scupham told the Bermuda Racing website.

“She has had a long year, so she will now have a deserved holiday, and we can all look forward to an exciting campaign next year!”

Trained by Andrew Balding, Flora Of Bermuda has enjoyed several highlights this season. She shed her maiden after winning the British EBF 40th Anniversary Alice Keppel Fillies’ Conditions Stakes at Glorious Goodwood and gained her black-type, finishing runner-up in the group two Flying Childers at Doncaster.

Since forming a decade ago, Bermuda Racing has owned several Bermuda-themed horses, including Johnny Barnes, Horseshoe Bay and Queen Of Bermuda.
