The Bermuda Snooker Association [BSA] is looking for former members to rejoin its upcoming league and encouraging new players to give the sport a go.

Teams from Sandys Boat Club, Spanish Point Boat Club, Royal Artillery Association, Warwick Workmen’s Club and Watford Sports Club will compete in the league, starting at 7 pm on Wednesday, October 25.

Each team consists of three players who play two singles games each Wednesday, earning points for themselves and their team.

Scott Barnes, a member of the BSA committee and longtime player, said the league has between 20 and 30 players and is looking to swell its numbers.

“We’re pushing for new players who might like to join, or former players who might want to come back out,” Barnes told Bernews.

“We’re not just looking for guys; women are welcome too.

“I started playing 20-odd years ago when there were a lot more teams. Numbers have dwindled, but we’re trying to get them back up.

“Snooker is more strategic than pool and has more finesse. Plus, it’s a fun night out with your friends.”

Barnes, who plays for Warwick Workmen’s Club 2, said the league is also appealing for a title sponsor.

“We’re not looking for big money, around $1,000 to $1,500 to cover the costs of trophies and things like that.”

Sandys Boat Club won the league last season, while Warwick Workmen’s Club 2 claimed the Island Construction Services Cup and the Keen Cup.
