Margot Shane Launches WordCraft Bermuda
Initiated by Margot Shane, co-Founder of the SkillCraft Youth Internship Programme, WordCraft Bermuda unveiled a fresh tutoring service focusing on reading and writing for 11-18 year olds in Bermuda.
A spokesperson said, “Participants of this tutoring service will increase their reading levels and comprehension through practice exercises such as breaking down words into parts so as to make their meanings more accessible without a dictionary.
“Through her experiences working with youth in Bermuda at The Mirrors Programme, running the SkillCraft youth internship and in high schools in California, Ms Shane identified a surprising gap in the support of reading and writing skills.”
Ms Shane explained, “Over the last 5 years, I experienced the challenges that young learners and parents face in accessing the support they need to develop robust reading and writing skills. As a high-school teacher in California, I realized that delays in reading and writing levels affected their ability to comprehend the materials I was giving them in their classes. The seriousness of this knock-on effect motivated me to develop my own program to help students develop these skills outside the classroom.
