Yushae DeSilva-Andrade ensured she won her silver medal in dazzling style after braiding her hair in blue and pink colours for the Parapan Am Games in Santiago, Chile.
DeSilva-Andrade enjoyed a Games to remember, winning the silver medal in the women’s individual BC1 division and decided to wear the eye-catching braids in tribute to her homeland and the colours of the boccia balls.
“It’s something I did especially for these Games,” DeSilva-Andrade told Bernews. “I had pink on one side and blue on the other, which also represented the boccia ball colours, which are red and blue. Everyone here seemed to love it!”
The 30-year-old, whose hair was braided by local hairstylist Tynieka Bean, added: “I’ll probably do it again for the next big tournament I have.”
“It’s an honour to win a medal at the Parapan Am Games,” DeSilva-Andrade previously told Bernews. “I’m proud of myself.
“It was a hard game against [De Oliviera]; we both wanted it so badly. There was a lot of emotion at the end of the game. I’m happy with silver, though.
“I’ve been competing since 2012; this was my third Parapan Am Games. To win a medal was awesome.”
