DeSilva-Andrade And Hayward Win Silver Medals

Yushae DeSilva-Andrade and Omar Hayward have claimed silver medals at the World Boccia Challenger in Santiago, Chile.
DeSilva-Andrade enjoyed a perfect round-robin phase in the Women’s BC1 Division, defeating Argentina’s Mariela Fuchs [9-0], Brazil’s Marta Das Chagas [3-1] and Lois Martin, of Canada, [10-0] before losing to Ailen Flores, of Argentina, 5-3 in the final yesterday [June 30]
The Bermudian athlete, who also won silver at the World Boccia Cup in Montreal in May, told Bernews: “I changed a few things before this competition, so to know they work is really awesome.
“[Winning silver] gives me more confidence to know I can keep up with the best and be one of the best. It’s awesome for me and Omar to win medals.”
DeSilva-Andrade will next be in action at the World Boccia Cup in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in September.
Hayward beat Kevin Barillas Murga, of El Salvador, 16-0, Lance Cryderman, of Canada, 6-4, and Caio Henrique Martins, of Brazil, 8-3 en route to the Men’s BC1 Division final, where he lost to Eduardo Sanchez Reyes, of Mexico, 9-0.
DeSilva-Andrade and Hayward are preparing for the Parapan Am Games in Santiago, Chile, in November.
