Bermuda Day Race To Finish On Court Street
The 2024 Bermuda Half Marathon Derby will finish on Court Street, with the organisers saying they ”look forward to the Court Street community and the community at large welcoming this race back home on Friday 24th May 2024.”
Dr Gina Tucker told Bernews, “Since our announcement at the finish of the 2023 Derby, the committee has been steadfast in preparing for the change of the Finish Line location.
“I can now confirm that the Derby Finish Line is “going back home” to Court Street where it would have ended in the early years of the race. After many years of pleading by Fresh TV’s Elmore Warren, we have taken the necessary steps to move the finish line. Thanks to the expertise of one of the best, Bob Thurston [along with Stephen DeSilva], the revised route–through Hamilton to the new Finish Line near Jamaican Grill and Spinning Wheel–has been marked and, as promised, the spectators along Cedar Avenue will not be “inconvenienced” and can continue to enjoy the race from their location.
“Many would recall the photos of the old Court Street finish depicting the spirit of jubilee experienced by both the runners and the spectators. We look forward to the Court Street Community and the community at large welcoming this race back home on Friday 24th May 2024.
“As one of the members of the organizing committee in the very early days, Mr. Place of Place’s Place was one of the sponsors who ‘put up’ the prize money. This year, the Prize Presentation will be held in the parking lot area outside of Place’s Place immediately after the race. In celebration of our 115th year of “Doing the Derby”, we anticipate hundreds will flock to the Finish Line Zone on Court Street to experience what promises to be a momentous finish for the hundreds of runners expected to participate.
“As we celebrate our 115th year, we want to thank the community [both the spectators and the participants] for their support over the years. We also note and thank Mr Dale Butler for the work he did in documenting the years up until the early 90′s.”
