Swan Applauds APGA Bermuda Championship

December 13, 2023

Kim Swan served as an honorary starter for APGA Bermuda Championship, saying “this tour is a great way to provide opportunities in a sport where minority and marginalized communities require greater exposure, financial support, and outreach.”

A spokesperson said, “The rescheduled APGA Bermuda Championship got underway at Port Royal Golf Course amidst cloudy skies and thunderstorms which caused a rain delay at 10am.

“Bermuda’s Nick Jones, son of Bermuda’s legendary Eardley Jones, leads with everything to play for on this final day.

“Kim Swan, the former PGA European Tour player, served as honourary starter and was thrilled to greet the golfers and announce them off the first tee.”

Mr. Swan said, “Today was an honour and it was truly surreal to meet these talented young professional golfers from the USA and some hailing from clubs and communities I called home and frequented 30 and 40+ years ago.

“From my vantage point, this tour is a great way to provide opportunities in a sport where minority and marginalized communities require greater exposure, financial support, and outreach.

“As a pioneer collegiate and professional golfer in the 1970s and 1980s, it was gratifying to be amongst the young talent and their support team of family and friends who also travelled to Bermuda in support of these talented young athletes.

“I would like to thank Danielle Carrera, Tournament Director for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, for bestowing the honour, and Mr. Cole Sinclair of the APGA Tour for the welcoming embrace and recognizing the significance of my global journey in golf.

“I’m humbled and recognize that I stood on the shoulders of greats – many who were denied the opportunity to showcase their talents.”
